10:10:10 Postcard 11 – Some thoughts on innovation from Andy Billings
The only way EA can survive is if they innovate.
At EA, leaders need to concentrate on living in the future. For EA executives "living in the future" is 2 – 3 years ahead because that’s how long it takes to bring a game to market.
EA needs to try guess what it is that consumers want and this means developing a pipeline of products that they work on. Some products may never ship for a variety of reasons. EA needs to live in the future because things can change so quickly.
How do you balance the present and the future? VPs and above spend 1/3 of their time in the present focusing on execution, taking services to consumers and talking externally. The other 2/3rds of their time are spent in the future.
